Michigan State University has begun renovation of its School of Packaging building on the East Lansing campus.

The building was last updated in 1986, the university says in a news release. The update will add flexible classrooms and provide students and faculty with the proper space and tools to conduct research.

Project plans call for refreshing labs with new equipment, central gathering spaces where students can work between classes and recharge their electronic devices, and open-style labs and offices for graduate students.

The Charles and Jackie Frasier Atrium will serve as a focal point as students enter the building.

The Ring Container Technologies Innovation Hall will connect to the Frasier Atrium and will provide space for collaboration among students, faculty and industry partners.

More than $10 million from alumni and donors, including Amcor, Charles and Jackie Frasier, and Ring Container Technologies, are helping to pay for the renovations.
