A 14-year-old boy is in custody in connection with the attack at Luther High School in Luther, Okla.

A 14-year-old girl was stabbed several times Thursday during an assembly at a high school in Luther, Okla.

KFOR-TV reports that the girl was attacked by a 14-year-old boy during a "welcome back" assembly on the first day of classes at Luther High School. Luther is about 25 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

"For some reason, the male student stood up and started stabbing the female student," says Mark Opgrande, a spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.

Opgrande says he believes the victim was stabbed around five to seven times. The attacker was taken into custody.

The girl was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. Her condition has not been disclosed. Emergency personnel say she is being treated for "multiple stab wounds to her upper back, arm, wrist and head."

Neither the victim nor the alleged attacker has been identified by police.

Immediately after the attack, investigators said they did not know of a motive for the attack, or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
