2 wounded in shooting at Louisiana college campus

Feb. 24, 2018
Injuries from Southeastern Louisiana University incident sustained are not life-threatening, authorities say.

Two people were wounded after gunshots were fired during a dispute early Friday at Southeastern Louisiana University.

The Associated Press reports that the incident happened at 3 a.m. Friday on the Hammond, La., campus, near an assembly hall where basketball games and other sports events are held.

University spokeswoman Erin Cowser says the shooting apparently stemmed from a dispute involving students and people who aren’t enrolled in the school.

The incident hasn’t forced any closures or cancellations on Friday, Cowser says.

“The incident is over and done,” she said.

It was unclear whether the two people injured were students. They were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Cowser says no suspects are in custody. Police are investigating.

Hammond is about 56 miles northwest of New Orleans.
