Texas Southern University student wounded by armed robbers

Victim was walking near campus to a convenience store when two men accosted him.

A student at Texas Southern University in Houston was shot near the campus early Friday outside an apartment complex.

KHOU-TV reports that the student was walking to a convenience store a little after midnight when two men robbed him and shot him. Police say nearby residents heard gunfire and a vehicle speeding away.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in serious condition recovering from his injuries.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the victim is a 22-year-old student; he was shot once in the shoulder.

Police say the suspects fled with the victim's cell phone; they remain at-large.
