72 employees in the New York City district have died from Covid-19 virus

28 teachers and 28 paraprofessionals are among those who have lost their lives.

The New York City Department of Education says 72 of its employees have died from the Covid-19 virus.

WABC-TV reports that 69 of the 72 district employees who have died were based in schools across the city.

Among the deceased:

•28 paraprofessionals
28 teachers
•3 food service staffers
2 administrators
•2 facilities staff

•2 school aides

•2 guidance counselors
1 parent coordinator
•1 school computer technology specialist


Of the school-based staff, their schools are based in the following boroughs:-

•Brooklyn: 25
•Bronx: 18

•Queens: 14

•Manhattan: 8
•Staten Island: 4

The city also says it has lost important members of the school community including school safety agents and nurses.
