From the 2025 Architectural Portfolio: 101 South Chester Road, Curtain Wall Replacement
Key Highlights
- Upgrades enhanced the building’s energy efficiency, reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
- A new curtain wall with double-glazed, low-e coated systems improves thermal insulation.
101 South Chester Road is a four-story private office building in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, that Swarthmore College acquired in 2013. The existing curtain wall no longer met standards for energy efficiency, thermal performance or aesthetic appeal. Updating the exterior of the building provided an excellent opportunity to enhance its functionality and the college's institutional image. The resulting system features double-glazed curtain walls with low-emissivity (low-e) coatings that substantially improve the building’s thermal insulation and reduce energy consumption.
