Highlights

  • The redesign includes a variety of spaces from quiet nooks to large group areas.
  • Modern technology and resources are incorporated to mirror higher education and corporate environments..

Pinckney Community High School, built in 1999 in Pinckney, Michigan, was organized around academic wings stitched together by a student commons/dining area and media center. Through the shifting trends in education, the role of the media center has diminished over time, so the district looked into what would draw students back to the physical space. The solution created a variety of moments—from small-scale reflective nooks to larger spaces for group gatherings and presentations. The design provides students with the resources and technology seen in higher education and corporate settings.
