Four school districts in Utah are among the 100 largest in the United States, and they are the four districts that spend the least per pupil among the 100 largest.
The Jordan District, in the southwest part of Salt Lake County, spent $6,333 per student in 2016-17, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The list of the low-spending large districts also has three school systems in Texas and two in Florida.
Nationwide, the amount spent per pupil for public elementary and secondary education (prekindergarten through 12th grade) for all 50 states and the District of Columbia increased by 3.7% in 2016-17, to $12,201 per pupil.
Expenditures in 2015-16 were $11,763 per pupil, Census Bureau figures show.
