One person was killed and another critically wounded after gunfire erupted Wednesday night outside a high school graduation ceremony in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed. The shooter fled the scene and was still at large Thursday morning, reportsThe Tennessean.The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. as people were leaving a graduation ceremony for Riverdale High School at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. The shooting occurred on tennis courts next to the center, police said.
Around 450 students were graduating at the Wednesday night ceremony, and "several hundred" family members were in attendance, Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said.
The university posted on Facebook around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday warning people to leave Murphy Center immediately and shelter in place if unable to leave the area safely.
Riverdale High has canceled Thursday classes.
