4 teens wounded in drive-by shooting near Chicago high school

Three students and an 18-year-old were shot at an ice cream store in front of Schurz High School on the city's Northwest side.

A drive-by shooting Wednesday at an ice cream shop across the street from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago has left three students and an 18-year-old wounded.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on the patio of La Michoacana Ice Cream Shop, reports WGN-TV

Police said a 15-year-old boy was shot in the face and neck. He was hospital in critical condition.

Another 15-year-old was shot in the back, a 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to the leg and an 18-year-old was shot in the leg. All three were transported to various hospitals in good condition.

Police said two of the victims were Chicago district students, the other attends an alternative school. The Chicago Teachers Union confirmed two of the teens were students at Schurz.

The shooting happened after some students had been dismissed for the day, while others were still in class.

Police are looking for a dark SUV. No arrests have been made. 

The Chicago school district released a statement about the shootings.

“Chicago Public Schools is working closely with Chicago Police Department as we respond to a shooting near one of our high schools, just prior to the school’s dismissal bell. The school went on a lockdown while the [police] responded....that lockdown has since been lifted and students have been released."
