Student shot to death near Chicago high school

A 16-year-old Chicago high school student was fatally shot Wednesday after he and his attacker made plans to fight each other after school.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Eric Billups and a 16-year-old girl were waiting at a bus stop near their school, Hyde Park Academy High School, at about 3:25 p.m. when the attacker confronted Billups, pulled a gun from a backpack and opened fire.

Billups had at least five gunshot wounds in his abdomen, chest and left arm and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The girl at the bus stopwas shot once in her calf and was in fair condition at the hospital.

Witnesses told police that Bullard and the shooter were supposed to fight after school. It was unclear what their quarrel was about, but authorities say the alleged shooter, had been released early from school Wednesday,

The shooting happened about two blocks from the high school.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning.
