Student shot to death at North Carolina high school

A suspect in the shooting, believed to be a fellow student at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, has been apprehended.

A student  has been shot to death at a high school in Winston-Salem, N.C.

CBS News reports that the victim was identified by authorities as William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr., who attended  Mount Tabor High School. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died of a gunshot wound.

Police chief Catrina A. Thompson says a suspect in the shooting is believed to be a fellow high school student.

WXII-TV reported later Wednesday that police had apprehended the alleged shooter.

No other details of the shooting were disclosed Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier Wednesday, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office reported a shooting "on school property" at Mount Tabor that had wounded one student.

Just after noon local time, Mount Tabor and surrounding schools were placed on lockdown as Winston-Salem police and first responders secured the area.
