Coyote trapped in bathroom of South Carolina school

Jan. 22, 2021
The animal entered Cane Bay Elementary in Summerville during student drop off, and was removed without incident.

A coyote who managed to get into a South Carolina elementary school Thursday morning was removed without incident.

WCBD-TV reports the coyote entered the premises of Cane Bay Elementary in Summerville during student drop off.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies worked with school staff to retrieve the animal.

Police say teachers trapped the coyote in a bathroom. The animal was removed from the bathroom without any incident to students or faculty members.

“They had it blocked off as best they could with anything to kind of keep it from getting out," says Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Matthew Woodall . "But I think it was more scared about being there than anything or worried about trying to harm anybody.”

The coyote was turned over to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources unharmed.
