April 29, 2022
The Duval County district has closed the cafeteria at Cedar Hills Elementary School, and students will be served meals prepared offsite.

The Duval County (Fla.) district has shut down the cafeteria at Cedar Hills Elementary School in Jacksonville because of a rodent infestation.

The district says exterminators are working to end the rodent problem, reports WJXTSo far the cafeteria is the only location in the school where rodents have been found.

Until the problem is resolved, the school will have food prepared offsite and served to students outside the cafeteria.

“Additional steps include working with pest control to identify and close off any access points that may be allowing rodents to enter the school, sanitizing and cleaning areas where rodents have been spotted, clearing away all storage and clutter, and trimming tree branches back from the roof of the building,” said Principal Marva McKinney.

Other schools within the district have also faced rodent infestations this year: Love Grove Elementary School and Neptune Beach Elementary school.
