The Charleston County (S.C.) district is considering a plan to build an elementary school on Johns Island

Building a campus on the island would cost $41 million, according to the district’s 2023-2028 capital building program, reports WCSC-TV

The school would accommodate about 700 students.

Students in Head Start through first grade would go to Angel Oak Elementary, and students in second through fifth grades attend the new school. Mount Zion Elementary would become a family center under the proposal.

The district says if the plans move forward, construction could be completed by summer 2024.
