The Charleston County (S.C.) district is replacing C.E. Williams North Middle School with a $40 million facility.
The existing building is underutilized; it has only about 363 students in a building with a capacity of about 904 students, reports WCSC-TV.
The new building will be constructed to have a capacity of about 600 students and will be designed to accommodate an expansion to 900 students.
The project is being funded by a 1% sales tax that voters approved in 2020.
The school is expected to be completed in 2026.
