Since opening in 2009, enrollment at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy has grown from 39 students to 636.

Lindsay Lane Christian Academy in Athens, Ala., is building a $4.9 million addition to accommodate its growing enrollment.

The Decatur Daily reports that the 34,000-square-foot expansion will house a gymnasium, 10 classrooms, four offices, a storm shelter, two eating areas and a storage space.

The school opened in 2009 with 39 students in grades pre-K to 1. It now has 636 students in Pre-K through 12th grade.

The school bought 31 acres that will accommodate the addition.

Four large modular classrooms will be installed in December to provide needed space until the addition is finished.

Construction is expected to be complete in 2024.
