Lord Fairfax Community College begins construction of science and technology building on Fanquier, Va., campus

April 5, 2021
The $30 million Eleanor C. and William A. Hazel Hall will be a two-story, 40,000-square-foot building.

More than three years after a ceremonial groundbreaking, excavation equipment has begun moving dirt for construction of a science and technology building on the Fauquier, Va., campus of Lord Fairfax Community College.

Fanquier Now reports that the $30 million Eleanor C. and William A. Hazel Hall will be a two-story, 40,000-square-foot building named for a couple whose family in 2013 donated $1 million to the project.

“After a very long and winding road to get to this point, I am very happy to share the fantastic news that we are finally going to see construction begin,” College President Kim Blosser wrote in an email to project donors.

The building will house a nursing skills lab, science labs, engineering and fabrication labs, classrooms, a board room, faculty offices, study spaces and a lounge and a conference center with banquet seating for 275 people.

The architects are Grimm + Parker, and the general contractor is Kjellstrom + Lee Construction.
