After 2-month delay, elementary campus opens in Lewisville, Texas

Oct. 16, 2019
Because of weather-related setbacks, Mill Street Elementary was unable to accommodate students until Tuesday.

After a series of construction delays caused by a spate of bad weather, the Lewisville (Texas) district finally has opened its newest elementary school this week.

Community Impact Newspaper reports that some 560 students arrived at Mill Street Elementary School Tuesday morning, two months after its expected opening date.

District officials announced in the summer that Mill Street Elementary, which was set to open Aug. 13, would not be ready for students until fall.

As construction on the school continued, 251 kindergarten, first- and second-grade Mill Street Elementary students spent the first nine weeks of the school year at College Street Elementary. An additional 311 prekindergarten, third-, fourth- and fifth-grade Mill Street students were relocated to Central Elementary.

Some renovation and construction projects that were set to begin earlier this year at College Street Elementary and Central Elementary were delayed so that the district could accommodate Mill Street Elementary students until the school opened.

Now that Mill Creek is open, the district will be able to move forward with those plans, administrators say.
