Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Bowling Green, Ohio, dedicated Stroh Convocation Center, a 5,000-seat, 130,000-square-foot multipurpose arena, last fall.

The arena beams as the new, iconic gateway to the college campus, and the vibrant facility establishes school pride through strong branding and color. The mitered-cornered, single-bowl arena is the new home of the Falcon's men's and women's basketball team. The arena also will be used for women's volleyball, concerts, lectures, commencements, and other campus and community events.

The site, on a prominent corner of the athletic campus, was selected for its orientation to the east for optimal exposure to natural light. From the start, the team was committed to using sustainable strategies. Local materials were selected and used for construction to cut down on excessive fuel in transport to the site. Recycled materials are being used as well throughout the building. Stormwater runoff is managed with high-efficiency mechanical systems and water-use-reduction measures.

Also included as part of the arena are the BGSU team store, an alumni club and Hall of Fame, locker rooms, extensive sports-medicine areas, athletic coaches' offices, conference and video rooms and a practice court.

Rossetti (Detroit) designed the project.
