Perez was allegedly racing with another vehicle moments before the crash.

The bus driver told police he had picked up students Wednesday afternoon from George Sanchez Middle School and was driving his normal route.

After the crash, Perez reportedly told the bus driver he had been traveling 65 to 80 miles an hour; the speed limit is 40 mph.

Seven students were treated at a local hospital, and two students underwent surgery for fractured bones.

All crash victims are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

Perez is charged with two counts of great bodily harm by vehicle.
