Celeste Ramirez has been named president of the New York City School Construction Authority.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says in a news release that Ramirez, who is returning to the Authority after many years operating her own construction firm, will be the first Latina New Yorker to lead the organization.
The School Construction Authority is responsible for designing and building education facilities for the nation's largest public school system.
"Celeste Ramirez brings decades of experience, a deep commitment to public service and firsthand knowledge of the work ahead," Mamdani says. "Under her leadership, we will accelerate the construction of the classrooms we need to meet class size requirements, modernize our school infrastructure and ensure every student has access to a world-class learning environment.”
Most recently, Ramirez has been president and CEO of CARA Construction Management, a construction consulting firm she founded in 2004. Before that, she spent 15 years with the School Construction Authority, serving in several leadership roles, including manager of operations for the legal and real estate divisions.
