Private school based in New York City buys property in San Jose, Calif., plans pre-K-12 campus
Avenues: The World School, a private pre-K through 12th grade school based in New York City, has bought an office building in San Jose, Calif. for about $33 million.
The office building is next to a school campus that Avenues is preparing to open next year, reports The San Jose Mercury News. The newly acquired property will be used for the school's expanded campus as a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school,
The project would re-use two office buildings, retain an existing parking structure, construct four new buildings, develop a lighted sports field and make an array of access and on-site improvements, the city planning documents show.
The 11.9-acre campus will also feature a gymnasium and aquatic center, theater building, secondary classroom building and a student lab building.
The first Avenues school opened in 2012 in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood.
The San Jose campus is expected to open in 2023.
