Alabama studies school bus seat belts

3-year program will try to determine if belt use makes bus rides safer

Hundreds of students acrossAlabama boarded school buses with seat belts Monday as the state launched a three-year study to determine if the harnesses make the buses safer. Alabama is the first state to conduct such a study, which developed from debates following a Huntsville bus wreck that killed four high school students in November 2006.
