From the 2026 Educational Interiors Showcase: Fieldstone Middle School Renovations Project
Key Highlights
- Repurposed part of the library to create a dedicated STEAM instructional space for hands-on learning.
- Redesigned remaining areas to include flexible group zones and quiet study niches for diverse learning styles.
- Supports modern, collaborative, and individualized learning modalities within a cohesive library environment.
As part of a districtwide referendum to address evolving educational needs and modernize building systems, the Montvale School District undertook a strategic renovation of its middle school library. The project focused on reclaiming and reimagining underutilized interior space to maximize functionality within the existing structure.
A portion of the original library was repurposed to create a STEAM instructional space that supports contemporary, hands-on learning. The remaining library area was thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate a wide range of learning modalities, balancing flexible group instruction zones with quieter, more intimate reading and study niches integrated seamlessly into the architecture.
