From the 2023 Architectural Portfolio: J.R. Tucker High School, Henrico County Public Schools

March 7, 2024
The project was recognized as an outstanding design in the High Schools category.

An update to Henrico County (Virginia) Public Schools’ high school design creates parity among district educational facilities and moves J.R. Tucker High School into the 21st century. The design considered the many ways that the interior spaces needed to support specialty programs. Additional square footage captured on the second floor above the culinary arts lab and serving lines addresses rising capacity needs without changing the building footprint. Flexible and multipurpose design criteria shaped the advancement of the prototype with a vertically connected library and extended learning spaces throughout the building.
