Northern Illinois University in DeKalb has reopened Cole Hall, which has been undergoing renovation since a deadly campus shooting four years ago.

The university says the facility now consists of three distinctive educational spaces: the Cole Hall Collaboratory Classroom, with six learning pods and 48 computer stations; the Anthropology Museum; and the Jameson Auditorium, a 351-seat space that can accommodate 750 wireless devices.

On Valentine's Day 2008, a gunman opened fire, and five students died and 21 others were injured before the shooter killed himself. The university considered tearing down the facility, but students and staff wanted the building to remain.
