Solar array at University of Alaska Fairbanks is blocked

A proposal to install a large array of solar panels on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus has been blocked after it failed to win enough support from the Alaska Board of Regents. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says regents backed the project 5 to 3, but it required six votes to pass. Siemens Industry had approached the university with the proposal for the $4.1 million project, which would generate enough electricity for about 5 percent of the annual campus electricity needs.
