Three children were injured, two of them critically, when they were hit Thursday morning by an SUV while waiting on a sidewalk to board a school bus in Louisville, Ky.
WDRB-TV reports that the crash happened around 8 a.m when a Jefferson County School District bus was stopped with its lights flashing at the intersection.
Police say the driver of a Cadillac Escalade did not realize the bus had stopped. To avoid hitting the bus, the Escalade swerved to the right side of the bus and struck the three children on the sidewalk, police say.
Two of the children were in critical condition, and the third child has serious injuries, authorities say.
The driver of the SUV was in serious condition and will be charged with having no insurance, and no registration. The crash investigation is continuing.
The school bus was empty when the students were hit. The bus was to transport students to Dixie and Engelhard elementary schools.
