One student was seriously wounded and another student is in custody after a shooting Friday morning at a high school in West Liberty, Ohio.
WDTN-TV reports that the attack happened at West Liberty-Salem High School just after 7:30 a.m.
The victim was identified as a 16-year-old male student at the school, but further details have not been disclosed. His condition was not released. No other students were injured.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect in the shooting also is a student, but have not disclosed the circumstances that led to violence. The weapon used in the attack has been recovered, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s office.
UPDATE: The Dayton Daily News reports that the shooting victim has been identified as Logan Cole. He was shot multiple times and remains hospitalized.
The suspected shooter is 17 years old and is in custody. The weapon used was a shotgun, authorities say. Investigators believe that Cole was a random victim and that the suspect intended to do more harm.
The West Liberty-Salem district campus has about 1,200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Superintendent Kraig Hissong says those students are being taken to an off-campus location where their parents will be able to pick them up.
