3 University of Iowa students among 5 wounded in shooting near campus

Three students at the University of Iowa and two other people were injured Sunday morning in a shooting a few blocks from the university campus in Iowa City.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that a large fight at the Pedestrian Mall in downtown Iowa City led to gunfire at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday. The area is home to several bars.

Police said Sunday that one of the wounded was in critical condition, and the four others were described as stable.

No arrests have been made.

University of Iowa President Barb Wilson confirmed that three students had been shot.

“While we await additional information, I am thinking about these students and their families, friends, and all the people who care about them,” Wilson said.
