Student stabbed, security guard shot at Buffalo, N.Y., high school

The student injured in the incident at McKinley High School is recovering after surgery; the security guard's wounds are not considered life-threatening. The shooter is not in custody.

student was stabbed, and a security guard shot Wednesday after classes were dismissed at a high school in Buffalo, N.Y.

The incident occurred at 3:45 p.m. at McKinley High School at the end of a walkway on the south side of the building, WGRZ-TV reports. The shooter was not in custody Wednesday night.

Police initially said that the student, 14, had been shot, but a city officials later said the boy "was stabbed multiple times and not shot." He was recovering after undergoing surgery at a local hospital.

Buffalo Police Deputy Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said the injured security guard was wounded in one of his legs, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Gramaglia said a dispute erupted abut 20 minutes after the school day ended, and the gunman pulled out a weapon and fired multiple shots. Authorities would not say Wednesday if the suspected shooter was a student at the school.
