"Projection of Education Statistics to 2028" from the National Center for Education Statistics predicts that by 2028, California will continue to have the most students—more than 6.1 million. But Texas is closing the gap; it is projected to have more than 5.8 million students in 2028.
From 2016 to 2028, public school enrollment in Texas is projected to increase by 9.3%. In California enrollment over those 12 years is projected to decline by 2.7%
