Harvard University tops the list of most selective higher education institutions, according to the Niche website

Harvard University is the most difficult college for students to get into, according to the Niche website's 2019 rankings.

The site compiles its "Hardest Colleges to Get Into in America" rankings based on each institution's acceptance rates and composite SAT and ACT test scores of enrolled students.

Harvard, which accepts just 5 percent of those who apply, and whose students' SAT scores range from 1420 to 1600, is the most difficult college for prospective students to win acceptance, Niche has concluded.

Five of the top 10 universities on Niche's list are Ivy League institutions—Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia and Penn.
