Aug. 9, 2023
Indiantown High School is a partnership between the Martin County (Florida) School District and Indian River State College.

The Martin County (Florida) School District and Indian River State College have opened a charter high school in Indiantown.

WPEC-TV reports that Indiantown High School is geared toward career and technical education. Students are permitted to be dually enrolled at the college and high school starting as early as 9th grade. Students will be able to complete an associate's degree before graduating high school.

College President Timothy Moore says the school was built in an underserved region of Martin County. Until now, the community of Indiantown didn't have a high school.

The 61,700-square-foot campus features technologically advanced, immersive learning spaces. It was built with the goal of those graduating being ready to go directly into the workforce.

Martin County Superintendent Michael Maine says students who attend the high school will be able to learn trades and get certifications.

The funds for the $25 million school came from the state of Florida, the college's foundation and a $10 million donation from Charles Johnston and his wife.

The school's features include:

  • 3,633 square feet of covered walkways
  • 4,118 square feet of covered entryways, overhangs, and outdoor patio
  • Eight core-content classrooms
  • Two computer labs for digital media, marketing, and emerging technologies
  • Health science lab with a three-bed simulated healthcare unit
  • Welding lab with 10 workstations
  • Automotive lab with eight workstations and two bays with lifts
  • Heavy-equipment training yard
  • Construction lab for carpentry and framing, plumbing, electrical wiring Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
  • Media Center with library, TV production studio, and quiet study spaces

Before the school opened, the closest high school for students in Indiantown was South Fork High School in Stuart.

Indiantown High School is one of two public charter high schools that the college operates in Martin County in partnership with the school district. Clark Advanced Learning Center, a charter high school on the college’s Chastain Campus in Stuart, opened in 2004.
