The Santa Barbara (Calif.) district is building a facility at Santa Barbara High School for its Visual Arts & Design Academy.

The 3,350-square-foot building will have a digital design lab, indoor and outdoor studio workspace, shop areas for new technology, photography and integrated exhibition space, reports KSBY-TV.

The Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) is a small learning community at Santa Barbara High with about 225 students, the district says. The “school-within-a-school” integrates rigorous academic coursework with project-based, career-focused art and design instruction.

The project is expected to be completed in January 2024.

The builder is McGillivray Construction.
