The 4,000-seat Community Stadium will serve as the home football field for four of the district's five high schools, and host high school and Drake soccer matches, reports The Des Moines Register.
Drake donated the land for the stadium, valued at $2.5 million. The university also will be responsible for maintenance of the stadium once it is built.
Initial plans called for the district to contribute $15 million and the university $4.5 million to build the facility. Inflation has added $1.39 million to the cost; the district will use additional sales tax revenue to help cover the difference.
Drake also has agreed to increase its fundraising for the project beyond its prior commitment of $4.5 million to help cover the higher cost.
The Community Stadium is slated to open in fall 2023.
