The Muscogee County (Ga.) district is merging two of its schools with a $25 million construction project.
The new elementary school will combine Dawson Elementary School and St. Marys Magnet Academy, reports The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.
The yet-to-be named school will be a 106,833-square-foot, three-story building that will accommodate about 750 students and will be built on the Dawson Elementary site. It will have 46 classrooms for grades pre-K to 5.
Other spaces include rooms for music, art, a gym, a cafeteria, and a media center.
Funding will come from a 1 cent sales tax that Columbus voters renewed last year.
The district is merging the two schools in order to save on operational expenses, school officials said.
Administrators have not determined what will be done with the old schools after the new one is built.

The school is set to be complete in 2023.
