Maine Regional School District 24 is building a a combined high school and middle school in Sullivan.

The Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus will serve about 500 students in grades 6 to 12 from nine towns in Hancock and Washington counties.

The 103,000-square-foot building will replace the existing 1950s-era Sumner Memorial High School, says CHA Architects. The facility will have air-source heat pumps, energy recovery ventilation, and VRF units, enabling the building to perform with greater energy efficiency.

The new school will have shared 21st-century learning environments, including a new learning commons, maker spaces, and materials labs. Collaboration spaces adjoin most classrooms, enabling students to pursue self-directed learning and project-based programs.

The campus is expected to open in 2022.
