Middle school under construction in Rustburg, Va.

March 8, 2021
The $41.3 million Rustburg Middle School will replace an existing school on the same campus.

The Campbell County (Va.) district has broken ground on a new Rustburg Middle School in Rustburg.

The Lynchburg News & Advance reports that the $41.3 million building, which is being constructed behind the site of the existing school, is projected to be ready for students in August 2022.

The 136,500-square-foot structure will hold 750 students and was designed with future growth in mind. It will have an auxiliary gym, wider halls and other features to make expansion easier.

The school’s agriculture shop, which overlapped slightly with the new building site, has already been demolished; the rest of the existing building will remain until construction is completed.

A parking lot and ball fields are planned for the space where the middle school now stands.

The builder is Blair Construction, and the architect is RRMM Architects.
