Miami-Dade board approves plans for school addition at Doral K-8
The Miami-Dade County (Fla.) district is set to begin construction of a building addition for a K-8 school in Doral that opened in 2017.
The district says in a news release that the school board has approved plans for an $11.8 million, 38,000-square-foot addition at Dr. Toni Bilbao Preparatory Academy.
The three-story addition will house classrooms for grades six to eight, as well as administrative offices, a warming kitchen, an outside dining area and patio, and a science lab.
The school also will receive a new basketball court, a covered drop-off area, additional parking spaces, playfield upgrades and a covered walkway connection to the existing building.
The campus has a capacity of 750 student stations, and with the building addition, will expand to a capacity of 1,200 permanent student stations..
The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2021.
The board also has approved a $4.8 million renovation of Joella C. Good Elementary. The school, built in 1990, will receive accessibility improvements, replacement of safety and climate control equipment, new building signage, and other upgrades.
