Ohio district breaks ground on $27 million junior-senior high school

The Wynford Junior-Senior High in Bucyrus, Ohio, is expected to be completed for the 2020-21 school year.

The Wynford (Ohio) district has broken ground on a $27 million junior high/senior high school in Bucyrus.

The Bucyrus Telegraph Forum reports that the 93,000-square-foot building will be constructed east and south of the existing school. It's expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

"This building, to me, is a sign of the community's unwavering commitment to our children," says Wynford Superintendent Fred Fox.

In November 2017, district voters approved a bond issue that is expected to generate $17.06 million for the project. An additional $10.6 million is coming from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

A key priority for the district, Fox says, "was the need to get the students out of the modulars."

The modular section of the school, which houses junior high classes, is 20 years old, Fox says.

The district says that sixth-grade classes will move into the new school when it is completed, and that will free up needed space at the elementary school.

Some of the existing building will be preserved—the auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria, shop, and enough space to accommodate school board offices.
