Ten higher-education institutions have been chosen as recipients of the 2013 Climate Leadership Awards.

Ten higher-education institutions have been chosen as recipients of the 2013 Climate Leadership Awards.

The honorees are colleges and universities that have signed on to the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment and have demonstrated leadership in sustainability and climate mitigation.

“These exemplary institutions have shown us that bold action on climate is not only possible but pragmatic,” said David Hales, president of Second Nature, which is the lead supporting organization for the climate commitment.

The institutions receiving the award: Missouri University of Science & Technology, Rolla; Portland State University, Portland, Ore.; SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry, Syracuse; Chatham University, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Goddard College, Plainfield, Vt.; Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt.; Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio; Bellevue College, Bellevue, Wash.; University of Hawaii Kauai Community College, Lihue, Hawaii; and Pratt Institute, New York City.

Signatories of the ACUPCC have pledged to eliminate their campuses’ net greenhouse gas emissions and make sustainability a part of the educational experience of all of their students.
