Dublin City High School in Dublin, Ga., is installing nearly 5,000 solar panels that officials say will reduce utility costs on the campus by 40 percent.
The 4,000 panels that make up the 1.1 megawatt system will be placed at several locations on campus and include rooftop arrays, ground mounts, and several dual axis trackers that enable panels to follow the sun vertically and horizontally.
“The ability to not only reduce operating costs with solar power but also essentially stabilize our energy costs for the next 25 years is a huge benefit to our school system,” Dublin City Schools superintendent Chuck Ledbetter says in a news release.
The solar panels will be integrated into the curriculum. Students in the physics lab will be able to learn about real-life energy generation, and business classes will examine the financial benefits and return on investment.
