Every school within the Aberdeen (Wash.) school district is getting a garden this summer.
The district is partnering with the Washington State Department of Agriculture, Pacific Education Institute and Washington State University to build the gardens, reports The Daily World.
The gardens are a part of the district's plan to incorporate garden science into its curriculum. The student-grown produce harvested in the gardens will be used in the district's lunch program.
A team of students is working this summer with the maintenance department to build the gardens.
The state Department of Agriculture’s Farm-to-School Program will help the district explore ways to bring locally grown food into the School Lunch program.
