Private school in Bozeman, Mont., ready to open permanent campus
Headwaters Academy, a private middle school in Bozeman, Mont., will welcome students later this summer to a new three-acre campus.
Much of the school is surrounded by farmland, which will enable students to interact with local farmers and learn about the land. About half of the three acres will remain green space with plans to add garden boxes and native plants later in the summer.
The property was purchased for about $2 million in spring 2019, reports Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
The school serves about 100 students; class sizes are16 students per classroom.
Work on the 8,000-square-foot new teaching building and a remodel of the existing structures began last summer. Construction is expected to be finished by early August.
The teaching building holds six classrooms, all with doors leading outside. Two of the largest are the art and science rooms. The science room, which gets south-facing light for students to cultivate plants, has water and gas connections. The art studio, which gets afternoon light, will have a kiln.
The property also has a large garage that will be converted into a multipurpose space and a home that will hold administrative offices, communal gathering spaces and a kitchen for students.
Walker Construction is the contractor.
