SUNY Cortland commits to renewable energy

State University of New York Cortland will become the first institution in the 64-campus SUNY system to operate all of its facilities using 100 percent renewable electrical energy. The university says more than 700 new solar panels will be installed on campus as part of the commitment, and the school will purchase 16 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy credits a year. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently approved a $3 million solar energy project for SUNY Cortland. The solar panels will be installed on the roof of the Park Center Alumni Arena, at ground level on a grassy area near the old SUNY Cortland entrance, and on the roof of the new Student Life Center.
