Science addition at Maryland school receives LEED gold

Science building at the German School Washington in Potomac, Md., incorporates numerous green features.

The German School Washington in Potomac, Md., has received LEED Gold Certification for its new Science Building. BethesdaNow.com says the building has a green roof with several layers of plantings to absorb storm water runoff, a rain screen facade and natural lighting strategies that reduce dependence on electrical lighting. The private school enrolls about 540 students from preschool through high school. The designer is Geier Brown Renfrow Architects.
