Energy-efficient power system installed at New York high school
Combined heat and power system at Eastridge High School in the East Irondequoit Central district will provide energy more efficiently and at a lower cost.
The East Irondequoit (N.Y.) Central School Districthas installed a combined heat and power (CHP) system to generate energy more efficiently at Eastridge High School. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, which contributed $666,000 toward the $1.6 million cost of the 325-kilowatt system will provide power for up to half of the school building, depending on the season, as well as heating or cooling. The CHP system will also operate as a stand-alone generator during a grid outage, turning the school into a Red Cross Facility of Refuge.
