A 16-year-old high school student in Maryland has died after being hit by a vehicle as he ran to catch his school bus.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Kyle Lynam, who attended North Harford High School in Pylesville, Md., was late to his school bus stop Tuesday morning and was running on Norrisville Road in White Hall to get to his stop.
Police say the student was running south on the northbound shoulder of the road at about 6:40 a.m. when he was hit by a 2015 Chevy Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe is not facing any charges in the accident.
Police believe the bus had its yellow lights activated and had not yet deployed the stop sign with flashing red lights or extended arm to signal traffic on both directions to come to a complete stop.
Lynam was taken to an area hospital and underwent emergency surgery. He died around 10:30 a.m.
